These terms are the ground rules for using BreedPedia (https://breedpedia.net). The site is operated by Mark. If you have a question about them, email hello@breedpedia.net.
If you use the site, you are using it under these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site.
Informational breed guides, not veterinary advice #
BreedPedia publishes dog breed guides, comparisons, and related articles for general information. The pages are researched and they cite sources where they can. They are not veterinary advice, medical advice, breeding advice, or a recommendation to buy a particular dog.
Dogs of the same breed differ. Health risks, lifespan figures, and care notes describe patterns in the sources. They do not diagnose your dog. A temperament sketch is not a promise about the puppy in front of you. Prices, ownership laws, and housing or travel rules change, and they may not match your city.
For health, diet, breeding, or behavior questions, talk to a licensed veterinarian or another qualified person who has actually seen the dog. Do not put off that conversation because of a paragraph on this site. In an emergency, contact a veterinary clinic.
Your responsibility #
You decide how to use what you read. That includes whether to get a dog, which breeder or rescue to contact, and how you train, exercise, and care for an animal. You are also responsible for following the laws that apply to you, including local rules on ownership and animal welfare.
Treat the guides as a starting point. Check the sources they cite, and get advice that fits your home. A general breed description can miss the dog you meet. That gap is yours to close, not something the site can close for you.
Advertising #
The site may show third-party advertisements, including ads from Google AdSense. Ads help pay for the research and the writing. An ad is not an endorsement by Mark or by BreedPedia of the advertiser, the product, or any claim in the ad. A breeder, food, insurer, or gadget in an ad is not a recommendation for a specific breed.
BreedPedia does not control the content of third-party ads, or of the sites those ads open. Your dealings with an advertiser are between you and that advertiser. Cookies used for ads are described in the Privacy Policy.
Intellectual property and content #
The text of the guides, the organization of the site, and original graphics made for BreedPedia belong to the site operator unless a page says otherwise. Breed names, club names, and the titles of studies stay with their owners. Citing the AKC, OFA, or a paper does not mean those organizations endorse this site.
You may link to any public page. You may quote a short passage for commentary, criticism, or study if you credit BreedPedia and link to the page. Please do not copy a whole guide, republish the articles, or sell them. If you want to reuse more than a short quotation, email hello@breedpedia.net first.
Disclaimer of warranties #
The site and its content are provided as is and as available. Guides are updated when sources change, but research moves, individual dogs vary, and mistakes happen. There is no warranty that a page is complete, current, or fit for a particular purpose, or that the site will always be available and free of errors.
Links to other sites are there for convenience. A link is not a promise that the other site is accurate or still online.
Limitation of liability #
To the extent the law allows, Mark and BreedPedia are not liable for loss or damage that comes from using the site or from relying on a guide. That includes decisions about buying or adopting a dog, training, veterinary care, and money spent with a breeder, rescue, or advertiser. It also includes problems caused by third-party ads, third-party websites, or the site being down.
Some places do not allow every kind of liability limit. In those places, this section applies only as far as the law allows. It does not limit liability that the law says cannot be limited.
Changes #
These terms can be updated. The date at the top of this page is the date of the current version, and the copy at /terms/ is the one that applies. Continuing to use the site after a change means the updated terms apply to that later use.
