BreedPedia (https://breedpedia.net) publishes dog breed guides and comparisons. This page explains what information is collected when you visit, why it is collected, who receives it, and how you can limit cookies and personalized ads. It is written in plain language so you can see what the site actually does.

Who operates this site
#

BreedPedia is operated by Mark. The site is not published under a separate company name. Questions about this policy, or about information that relates to you, can be sent to hello@breedpedia.net.

What this policy covers
#

This policy applies to pages on breedpedia.net, including breed guides, comparisons, and this page. It does not cover other websites you open from a link or an advertisement. Those sites set their own rules.

You do not need an account to read the guides. The site does not ask for your name, postal address, or payment details in order to view an article. There is no comment box and no newsletter signup on the pages.

Information that is collected
#

The site uses Google Analytics and Google AdSense. In ordinary use, those services may collect:

  • Pages visited — which guide or comparison you opened, and general information about how you moved through the site
  • Device and browser information — device type, operating system, browser, screen size, and language
  • Approximate location — a region derived from your IP address, typically country or city, not a street address you typed in
  • Referring website — the page or search result that sent you here, when your browser provides it

A normal visit also includes the date and time, and the IP address that comes with any web request. Google may shorten or otherwise process that address under its own product settings. BreedPedia does not keep a visitor database of its own, and it does not build a profile you can log in to see.

If you email hello@breedpedia.net, the message includes your email address and whatever you write. That message is read so it can be answered, and it is kept only as long as it is needed for that conversation.

Cookies
#

A cookie is a small text file stored in your browser. Similar tools include pixels and local storage. On this site they are used for analytics and for advertising:

  • Analytics cookies help measure traffic: which pages are read, whether a visit looks new or returning, and how people arrive.
  • Advertising cookies help Google AdSense serve ads, cap how often the same ad appears, measure whether an ad was viewed, and — if you have not opted out — personalize ads based on activity.

You can read every guide with cookies blocked. Blocking them may stop measurement and change which ads appear. It should not lock the articles.

Why this information is used
#

Visit data is used to:

  • See which guides and comparisons are useful, and which ones need an update
  • Understand the site in aggregate — popular topics, common devices, general regions — so the writing stays focused
  • Operate the site as a normal website
  • Show advertisements, including ads from Google AdSense, which help pay for research and updates
  • Notice abuse, such as automated traffic that would overload the site, when the tools report it
  • Reply if you write to the contact address

BreedPedia does not sell mailing lists of visitors. Ad personalization, when it happens, is handled by Google under your Google settings, not by a BreedPedia account.

Google Analytics
#

The site uses Google Analytics 4, measurement ID G-K5R4QZ6LCK. Analytics records the visit data described above — pages, device and browser, approximate location, and referrer — so readership can be understood in aggregate. BreedPedia does not use it to identify you by name.

Google describes its own handling of this data in Google’s Privacy Policy and in this Google Analytics help page. You can opt out of Analytics measurement with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by blocking analytics cookies in your browser.

Advertising and Google AdSense
#

The site uses Google AdSense to show third-party ads. The AdSense publisher ID is pub-1121436620799821, which is also listed in the site’s ads.txt file. Google, advertisers, and their partners may use cookies and similar technologies to deliver ads, measure them, and decide which ads are relevant.

Ads are chosen and served by Google and the advertisers. They are not written by BreedPedia. An ad next to a breed guide is not an endorsement of that product, breeder, or service, and it is not a care recommendation for the breed in the article.

Google explains advertising use of data in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and in its advertising technologies policy.

Ad personalization
#

Google may tailor the ads you see using activity on this site and on other sites and apps that use Google advertising, unless you have turned personalization off. You can review and change that at any time on Google Ad Settings. From that page you can turn off ad personalization and see the interests associated with your browser or Google account.

People in the United States can also use the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out. Turning off personalized ads does not remove ads. You may still see ads; they are less tied to your activity.

How to control cookies in your browser
#

Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies. Typical options:

  • Block third-party cookies
  • Delete cookies already stored
  • Block cookies from specific sites
  • Use a private or incognito window, which drops those cookies when you close it

Instructions from the browser makers:

If you block cookies, Analytics and AdSense may not measure the visit or personalize ads. The articles stay available.

Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” or similar signal. Services do not all respond to those signals the same way. The controls that apply here are Google Ad Settings and your browser’s cookie settings.

Your choices and rights
#

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

  • Know what information is collected and why
  • Access information held about you, and ask for a copy
  • Correct information that is wrong
  • Ask for deletion
  • Object to or restrict certain uses
  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising
  • Appeal a refusal, or complain to a privacy regulator

There is no visitor account on BreedPedia, so there is no profile page to edit. Most visit data in this policy is processed by Google. For that data, use Google Ad Settings, the Analytics opt-out add-on, and your browser.

If you want to ask about information the site itself holds — for example an email you sent — write to hello@breedpedia.net with enough detail to find the message. A reasonable request will get a reply. You may be asked to confirm that the request is yours. This section describes those choices at a high level. It does not replace a right you already have under the law where you live.

BreedPedia does not knowingly sell personal information. Advertising cookies used by Google can count as “sharing” for targeted advertising under some privacy laws. The ad settings link above is the opt-out for that.

Children
#

The guides are written for adults who are choosing or living with a dog. The site is not directed at children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has emailed personal information to hello@breedpedia.net, write to that address and ask for the message to be deleted.

How long information is kept
#

Analytics and advertising data is stored by Google under Google’s retention settings, not in a BreedPedia database. Email sent to hello@breedpedia.net is kept long enough to answer and to keep a record of the exchange, then deleted when it is no longer needed.

Where processing happens
#

Google operates internationally. Information collected by Google Analytics and Google AdSense may be processed in the United States and in other countries where Google runs its services. Those countries may have different data-protection rules than yours. Google describes its safeguards in its privacy policy, linked above.

Changes to this policy
#

When this page changes, the date at the top is updated. The version at /privacy/ is the current one. If a change is substantial, the page will say what changed in plain language.
